Flash - How To Tips

Layers - use a different layer for each symbol, this will give you greater control over each symbol
Action Layer - when using actions always create a layer for actions and have it be the first layer
Lock Layers - always lock a layer once you are finished with it. This will prevent you from unintentionally modifying that layer when working in other layers.

Display the Controller Toolbar for controlling movies - Window > Toolbars > Controller

Test a movie - Ctrl + Enter

Dashed lines in a Tween - this indicates a problem with the tween, either the object you are working with is not a symbol or the beginning or ending keyframe is missing. All tweens must start and end with a keyframe.

Tween with Path - create a motion tween, add a guide layer, attach the symbol to the path in the first frame and the last frame.

Creating a Movie Clip from Layers -

  • Select the first frame of all the layers you want in the new movie clip.
  • Select Edit > Timeline > Copy Frames  - you must use the timeline feature, copy does not work.
  • Insert a new movie clip symbol and give it an appropriate name.
  • Select layer 1 in the new movie clip and then select Edit > Timeline > Paste Frames
