Montage Project

This is your first major project worth 50 points.

1. Start by forming a group of 3 -4 students - create a Google Doc called
Montage Project and share it with each person in your group. Title the document and list each member in your group.
2. Next come up with several
possible themes for your video - write these in your document. As a team decide on the best theme or story.
3. Now use the following list to
create a shot list - name the shot type and where the shot will be taken - be as specific as you can. You will begin by gathering interesting footage of Sequoia based off of what you learned from your notes and class discussion. Include the following:

  • A close up of every member of your group with a different background

  • 4 Extreme close ups of different interesting objects on campus

  • 4 Full or wide shots that pan, dolly, or incorporate movement

  • 4 Shots with something in the background, and foreground

  • 2 symmetrical shots

  • 2 High Angles

  • 2 Low Angles

  • 6 other creative shots

  • 24 interesting shots total for a montage to be edited next class.

Here are the specs for this project:

1. Your theme must be clearly communicated through the variety of shots that you use. Much of your grade will be based on how well your edits are timed. Did you remove material that was not necessary and tighten up your shots or did you just place the shots together in a sequence with little editing?
2. Add a 5 second title with black background and 5 second closing credits with black background
3. Change to format of your video to:
Codec: H.264
Format: 720p HD
Resolution: 960x720
Use the following instructions to change these settings for your project.
4. Add appropriate music to your video that fades in at the beginning and fades out at the end.

Once you have edited your video you will write a description of your goal, what was the story you were trying to tell. You will also discuss several shots and explain why you chose that shot and what was your purpose in choosing that shot.
