2019 College and Career Connection @ Skyline College

Career Fair

The College and Career Connection (formerly known as the Career Fair) is a fun event made possible through partnerships with Sequoia Union High School District, Skyline College and Junior Achievement, which allows high school students to practice important career skills and to research career options that await them after high school. This year's College and Career Connection will be March 13 & 14, 2019 at Skyline College, 3300 College Drive, San Bruno, CA 94066.

We need approximately 120 volunteers for each event day to fill Mock Interviewer volunteer positions. If you would like to volunteer as a Mock Interviewer please sign up here. The Mock Interviewer portion of the event will run from approximately 10:40am to 1:15pm for each day, and will be divided into three separate rotations:

Wednesday March 13, 2019
Rotation #1 (10:40am – 11:25am)
Rotation #2 (11:35am – 12:20pm)
Rotation #3 (12:30pm – 1:15pm)

Thursday March 14, 2019
Rotation #1 (10:40am – 11:25am)
Rotation #2 (11:35am – 12:20pm)
Rotation #3 (12:30pm – 1:15pm)

Volunteers may register for one or two days. For each day, volunteers are welcome sign up for one, two or all three rotations. We ask that Volunteers arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled rotation.

The primary purpose of the College and Career Connection is to act as a capstone learning experience for students who have prepared for the event by writing a personal resume, practicing job interview skills, learning about proper business etiquette, and to continue exploring career education pathways. To see a past event in action, please see this excellent highlight video made by one of our former students. To learn more details about the College and Career Connection, please visit our FAQ.

What do Mock Interview Volunteers do?

Mock Interview Volunteers conduct short, one-on-one job interviews with students during the event. The job being interviewed for will be agreed upon by the Volunteer and students at the start of the interview. After the interview is complete, Volunteers will fill out an evaluation form designed to give the students contructive feedback about what they are doing well, and how they might improve. A training conference call will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 12:15pm to 1pm to assist Volunteers and answer questions. The conference call will be recorded for folks who cannot participate at that time. Printed activity materials for the mock interviews will be provided at the College and Career Connection.

Who are the students that are participating?

Students from Carlmont, Menlo-Atherton, Sequoia, and Woodside High Schools who are enrolled in Academies and Career Technical Education classes will be in attendance. The primary purpose of the College and Career Connection is to act as a capstone learning experience for students who have prepared for the event by writing a personal resume, practicing job interview skills, and learning about proper business etiquette. Many of these students have been designated at-risk of not completing high school and not pursuing post-secondary education or training.

When will Volunteers be trained?

The online training event for Mock Interviewers will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 12:15pm to 1pm.

The login/phone details for that conference calls will be emailed to registered volunteers. The training event will be recorded and made available to everyone who has signed up to volunteer. During the training event, we will review roles and responsibilities for volunteers, event logisitics, and provide background information about our students. At the end of the training event we will also have a Q & A session to make sure we have covered all of the bases. Soft copies of the Volunteer materials complete with directions, parking, and other event logistics will be emailed to each volunteer following next week’s training. Printed copies of volunteer materials will also be made available at the event.
