The Sequoia Seal The Sequoia Seal was adopted by the 1925-26 student body commissioners to represent the spirit of Sequoia. The seal can be seen in mosaic tile at the main entrance of Sequoia. By tradition and out of respect the seal is never tread upon, but rather walked around in order to enter the main doors. Remember, it is there to signify school spirit and loyalty. It is also on display in the library in beautiful stained glass. The seal is represented throughout much of Sequoia’s printed materials. Every part of the seal has a special significance. The outstanding figure in the center of the seal is a giant Sequoia tree. It typifies the spirit of Sequoia Victorious and symbolizes Sequoia’s strength. From behind the tree the rays of the rising sun represent the spirit of promise. The colors symbolize service. The red of the rising sun that changes through white to the blue of the sky is the sign of loyalty to America. School loyalty is brought out in the purple and the white. Each ray has its own meaning. On the right half are the ideals of thought: Hope, Faith, Wisdom, Beauty and Idealism. On the left half are the five bars which signify Sequoia’s ideals of action: Health, Endeavor, Leadership, Glory and Joy. The name Sequoia High School is written around the seal. Beneath the giant Sequoia Redwood appears the word UNALIYI, which is the Cherokee word meaning Place of Friends.
