WELCOME TO COMPUTER REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
Welcome to the Computer Repair and Maintenance course. This is the first semester of a two-semester sequence that can result in industry-recognized certification. Successful completion of the two-semester sequence and the certification exams will result in A+ Certification. This certification is recognized by employers worldwide and can provide the necessary background for entering the Information Technology field.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Written assignments must have your name, date, period and title of the assignment. All answers should be written in complete sentences so the question you are answering will be obvious. If you are doing a calculation be sure to show all work.
HOMEWORK:
There is homework in this course every night. If no homework is “assigned” it is assumed that you will use that time to review the curriculum and rewrite, study and expand on your notes from class. This is the only way you will keep up with the large amount of material presented in this course.
“Assigned” homework is checked at the beginning of class and is not accepted after it has been checked. If you cannot complete an assignment it is your responsibility to come in before class to obtain the help required.
GRADES:
Homework
Usually10 points for each assignment. If you are absent when the homework is checked or was assigned you receive a -10 points and it is your responsibility to show me the completed work immediately upon your return.
Labs
The labs will provide practical application of the lessons you will study. Usually 15-30 points.
Quizzes
Usually 5 to 10 points.
Tests
Unit tests are usually between 45-60 points and cover an entire unit plus all of the previous material covered up to that point.
Grading Scale
Once your point total has been established, divide your points by the total points possible and multiply by 100 to obtain you score. The following scale is used in this course
100-90% = A
89-80% = B
79-70% = C
69-60% = D
Less than 60% = F
ATTENDANCE
The district attendance policy applies fully to this course. You will also have to notify the instructor prior to the start of class of your absence if you are going miss class for any reason. The same standard that is used in a working environment is also used for this class. You may leave a voice mail message at 367-9780 ext. 8617. If you need to leave class for any reason you must have the appropriate exit form from the attendance office. If you are late to class you must have a pass.
COMPUTER AND NETWORK USAGE
The computers in this course are provided for educational use only. Any other use is considered inappropriate. On-line chat and listening to CD’s is not allowed. Changing the settings or modifying the computer in any way without instructor permission is considered vandalism and is reason for suspension. The second incident of vandalism will result in being dropped from the course. If there is a problem with your computer notify the instructor as soon as you discover it.
OFFICE HOURS
If you need help you are welcome any time the door is open. The best time to get help for this class is in the morning but I am also available during lunch and after school. I generally arrive at school by 7:30 and leave around 4:30 but am willing to arrive earlier or stay later if needed. Current grades are posted weekly in order to help you monitor your progress. This also allows you to spot any errors that may have been made in your score, but of course I never make xerrrors.
DRESS CODE
On certain occasions you will be required to wear business attire to class or for special events. Business attire is required anytime guests come to visit our class. This means no jeans, shorts, hats or other casual dress. You should dress as if you were going to a job interview.
CLASSROOM BEHAVOIR
You are expected to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner at all times. Any behavior that takes away from a positive learning environment is inappropriate and will not be tolerated. This course is a lab-based course where you work on the same computers that you use everyday so appropriate lab behavior is expected.
