PC Configuration Exam Part III: Lab Practical Section

 

Perform each of the following tasks. Leave each window open until you receive teacher check. Do NOT raise your hand until you have completed all of the tasks, leave each window open for teacher check.

1. Display the amount of memory your computer has as well as the clock speed. Copy down both of these values.

2. Display the IRQ value for the System CMOS/Real Time Clock

3. I have a PC that currently has 512 MB of PC2700 DDR memory and I want to upgrade to a total of 2GB of memory. There are two free DIMM memory slots on my computer. Explain what I need to do to perform this upgrade without removing my current memory.


You may use the www for the following two questions.

4. Find out how much the upgrade in question 3 will cost. Show the web page to your instructor for teacher check and show your calculation for the total cost.

5. Find out the type of memory you would need to upgrade this computer (the one you are taking this test on) and how much more you could add. Show the web page or results to your instructor for teacher check.

6. Change the boot sequence of your computer so that it will boot off the CD or DVD drive first and remove the floppy drive from the boot sequence.
