IS Support Technician II

GENERAL SCOPE

Under the general supervision of the Director of Technology, performs installation, maintenance and repair of computers and network equipment, manages web, email, vpn, ftp and file servers and related accounts, assists with system backups, network security, web filtering, anti-spam and anti-virus applications, develops and maintains various databases, and performs other related work, as directed by District.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Network Administration

  • Manage, configure and support the VoIP phone system
  • Manage, configure and support routers, managed switches, wireless access points and other network devices
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot district LAN/WAN connections, including ISP link and COE link.
  • Configure and maintain Windows, OS X, and Linux servers
  • Configure and maintain district email system, including spam filter and anti-virus protection
  • Configure and maintain district firewall and other aspects of network security
  • Configure and maintain district web filter
  • Manage district backup system and other disaster recovery plans and procedures
  • Manage users, groups and devices in Active Directory and set up other accounts/permissions, as needed
  • Monitor and update all network devices and/or software as necessary

 

Database Administration

  • Manage, configure and support district Student Information System (PowerSchool), including customization and reports (registration, attendance, grades)
  • Manage, configure and support custom district databases (MySQL, FileMaker)
  • Maintain district library circulation software, including data exchange with SIS.
  • Perform Pre-ID data submissions for various district assessments
  • Manage assessment data and reporting
  • Manage, configure and support district assessment system (MAP)
  • Perform all requirements for CALPADS state reporting

 

Desktop Support

  • Perform technical support and respond to Technology Service Requests, as needed
  •  Maintain, support and repair, as needed, all district equipment, including desktops, laptops (mobile carts), printers, SMART Boards, projectors, A/V equipment, including warranty/repair service
  • Distribute and track print supplies, repair items and other consumables
  • Install and deploy new equipment, and perform hardware/software upgrades
  • Assist with the recycling of old equipment during summer upgrade period
  • Maintain computer images and regularly re-image machines
  • Maintain district inventory database
  • Monitor security and anti-virus/malware protection and perform and necessary repairs and/or recommend changes to improve system integrity
  • Help to manage video broadcast studios, including digitizing and posting morning announcements
  • Work with vendors, consultants, external tech support, as needed
  • Research equipment, software or other solutions and recommend improvements
  • Update knowledge and skills to stay up-to-date with new technology developments
  • Assist administrators, teachers, students, parents and visitors with the effective use of district technology

Knowledge Of:

·      Workstation setup and configuration (PC and Mac)

·      Operating Systems: Windows, MacOS X, UNIX/LINUX

·      Networking: TCP/IP, email protocols, Cisco IOS, network printing, wireless

·      Windows 2003 server management (including Active Directory)

·      Applications: MS Office, Firefox, FileMaker, Virus Protection

·      Troubleshooting strategies and resources

 

ABILITY TO:

·        Bend down to install and connect equipment

·        Use hands and fingers to manipulate small objects

·        Use lower body mobility to stand, walk, stoop and bend to perform tasks such as lifting equipment from floor to cart

·        Hear normal conversation in person and/or on telephone

·        Reach horizontally and vertically with arms

·        Lift and carry 50 pounds

·        Follow District policies and procedures

·        Learn about new technology

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Typical qualifications may include:

High school graduate with two years of computer network and workstation support.

College or vocational training in computer science / networking with applicable experience.

SALARY

$55,890-$71,323 for initial placement, based on experience. Salary schedule with longevity ends at $80,704.
