Compression Warm-up Activity

1. Make a folder on the desktop and label it with your first and last name.

2. Create two sub folders, one called Secure and the other Compressed. Make the secure folder encrypted and the compressed folder compressed.

3. Open both folders and tile them so they are side by side.

4. Create two files in each folder and name them encrypted 1, encrypted 2, compressed 1 and compressed 2. Turn on the color feature so compressed and encrypted files are color coded. What color are the encrypted files?____________ What color are the compressed files?_____________

STOP! Answer question # 5 & 6 before doing anything else! After you answer these two questions get teacher check before continuing.____________

5. What will happen to the encrypted file when it is copied to the compressed folder?

6. What will happen to the encrypted file when it is moved to the compressed folder?

7. Now actually do step 5 and 6 and record your results here.
