Computer Aided Design is divided into two semesters. In the first semester students are introduced to Mechanical Drafting which involves drawing small mechanical parts. Most of the class period is spent on drawing assignments that reinforce new tools and drawing skills. For the first semester the students use AutoCAD 2002 LT which is very similar to the program that professionals use in the field.

The second semester shifts from small scale drawings to large scale drawings as the course shifts to Architectural Drafting. Here students learn the concepts of scale and house design as they design their own house floor plan. In this phase of the course students are introduced to a new program, ArchiCAD 7.0. This is a powerful architectural drawing program that allows students to view their house design in 3D.
