Commercial Groups 4th

Commercial Groups 3rd

Commercial Project - Create a shot list for your commerial. Your shot list should have the following information:
Shot # - Location - Subject/Action - Shot Type - Camera Angle - Camera Movement
1 - Tea Garden - Mr. Dodge relaxing in a red chair - Wide Shot - Eye level - Pan left to right ending on Mr. Dodge.
2 - Tea Garden - Mr. Dodge in a red chair looking at his phone - Mid Shot - Low Angle - Static
3 - Tea Garden - Mr. Dodge's phone - Over the Shoulder - High Angle - Static

Shot List Template - you can use this shot list template or create your own.

Show this to your teacher before you start to shoot. Each group must submit a copy to Google classroom.

Begin shooting your commercial project, remember sound matters now so be sure you have the right equipment and that you check it before you leave!

Edit Sound Project 2 - Mic Comparison Video - submit to Google classroom.
Be sure to include a title and credits with music but no music during the video.
Sound Project #2 - Mic Comparison - use this project to practice reading your commercial script.
• You will create four different shots - each shot should include the mic IN the shot (if possible) so we can see where the mic is located as you make the shot.
Use a tripod to hold the camera and have the speaker sitting.
• Shot 1 - use the boom mic and shoot 10 seconds of an interview - the person must speak for the full 10 seconds, have them read something. Position the boom mic where it would normally be during an interview (actually a little closer to the person so you can see the mic but don't place it over their face.)
• Shot 2 - same interview but this time with a lavaliere mic.
• Shot 3 - same interview but this time use the camera mounted boom mic.
• Shot 4 - same interview but this time with the built in mic - be sure no other mic is connected to the camera.
Create a title for each shot so we know what mic you used and be sure the mic is IN the shot.

How to check Audio levels with a Canon T6i
• Move the on selector to Movie mode
• Move the dial selector to M for manual mode
• Push the Menu button and move over to the fifth option - this should show Sound Recording - be sure this is set to Auto.
• Press the Set button and the audio meter should be displayed.
• Have your actor say a few lines and check that the audio levels are adjusting appropriately.

Move the dial selector back to Auto.

Homework

Continue to develop your 360 video story. Review the suggestions from the 360 Mentors in the above videos.

What, Why, How

What: Movies are created by developing a sequence of shots and scenes in order to tell a story. The different types of shots are referred to by name and abbreviations.

Why: Knowing the different types of shots is part of the movie making profession and this knowledge adds to the skill set of the videographer.

How: By completing the shot projects which involve each of the different types of shots.
