Screen within a Screen Using the Crop Tool

Occasionally there are times when you want to show two or more clips simultaneously, one screen within another. This picture in a picture effect is easy to accomplish in Final Cut Pro.

1. First place the different clips you want to show in the same window on top of each other, stack the clips on top of each other.
2. Click on the top clip and select the free transform tool to adjust its size and position. Notice that now you can see the video underneath it.
3. Repeat this process with the next video. You can trim, crop or Ken Burns your shot to get just the view you want. You will need to move back to the transform tool to move the clip once you have resized it.
4. You can add transitions such as a dissolve to make the appearance of the windows a bit smoother when they appear instead of just popping into the window.

The Ken Burns Effect
1. The Ken Burns effect alows you to zoom in, pan and adjust your video even if you did not pan or zoom in the original video.
2. Select the shot and then select Crop and select Ken Burns.
3. This will bring up a green start frame and a red final frame.
4. Adjust the size and locations of the start and final frames and then click Done.
5. Now you can view the effect in your main timeline.

It is that easy.
