What is the difference between an AA degree and a Certificate?

Career Research Project - Determining Your Fall Schedule!

In college you choose which courses you take and when so you make your own schedule. In your previous exercise you determined what courses you needed for your degree/certificate. Today you will find out what your schedule may look like in the fall.

Pull up your list of required courses for your major (see April 8th). Now go to your school's website or do a Google search for their fall schedule for the fall 2019. Use this information to develop your schedule. If your school does not have the fall schedule for 2019 use the current spring schedule of classes to see what a possible schedule would look like.

Besides taking courses for your major you will also need to complete the general education requirements for your degree. Here are the general education requirements for an AA degree at Canada. It is typical to spread out these course over your full term. Notice the section on student catalog rights, this is why you should keep a copy of the school catalog for the year you begin school.

1. Make a chart with the following information for each course you will be taking the first semester for your major:
Be aware of any prerequisites that are required for these courses, don't plan on taking a class if you don't meet the per reqs.

Major or Gen Ed... Class Name ... Class Number... Units.... Days.....Hours....Location.....Dates

Here is an example for Data Structures at SJSU for a computer science major.

Fall 2019

Major or Gen Ed Class Name Number Units Days Hours Location Dates
Major Intro to Data Strc

CS 046B

WSQ 109 08/21/19 12/09/19

2. Now look up the general ed requirements for your degree. Paste those requirements here.

3. Which of the general ed courses will you be taking in the first semester?

4. Total up the units you will be taking for this semester in your chart.

5. Find the Admission Deadlines or the Steps for Applying for your school and copy and paste that information here.

6. Which of these steps have you already completed?

7. How are you feeling about your first semester in college?
