Use the Rap Structure below as a sample to create a Rap about the complex economic systems promoted by Adam Smith and Karl Marx.  Follow the Rap Requirements to create your lyrics.  The end result will be to produce a music video but the first step is to make the rap.

Rap Structure:

  • Title
  • Verse 1
  • Verse 2
  • Chorus
  • Verse 3
  • Verse 4
  • Bridge & Chorus

(for the chorus think of a catchy hook which relates to the main theme of the rap)

Rap Requirements:

  • Define each economic system
  • Compare and contrast Capitalism with Communism
  • Include the strengths and weaknesses of each system
  • Describe the proper role of government in each economic system
  • Which system provides best for its people?

(Write the lyrics through playing around with some rhyming words while focusing on the content)

Submit your scene and shot list for the EconoRap to Moodle

Create an outline of your rap first:
Intro - verse1
Main Idea - chorus

Your shot list should include:
Scene - description of scene and
Shots - each scene should have several shots, type of shot - POV, 2P
Action - what action will take place in each shot

Here are the specs for the project:
50 points

Sound is critical in this shot, you must use boom or lav mics with either the camera or the H1 digital recorders.
Clips must cut on the beat of the song.
Use images as part of your video, Karl Marx, Adam Smith....

- 5 seconds of black screen.
- Title ~ 3 seconds - should show up during the 5 seconds of black screen and should have your first name only.
- Your movie. The movie must be a minimum of 2 minutes but no longer than 4 minutes so pick a song that fits this time frame.
- No one shot can be longer than 20 seconds.
- Clips must cut on the beat of the song.
- Closing credits - be sure to credit the artist of the song.
- 5 seconds of black screen.
