Wacom Lab

 

In this lab you will explore the use of an alternative input device for your computer.

  1. Obtain a Wacom tablet from your instructor. What items are found in the box?
  2. What type of connector does the pad use? Connect this to the front of your computer (pull down the tab at the bottom front of your computer)
  3. What message pops up when you plug in the device?
    This device is an example of Plug and Play technology, all that is needed is to connect the device to the computer and it is automatically installed and ready to use.
  4. Use the pen to navigate around the computer. Swap users and let your partner do the same. How do you open an application when using the pen to navigate?
  5. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint. Use the pen to create a simple drawing. Now switch to the mouse that came with the tablet and create the same drawing. Which method did you find easier when creating the drawing? Save both drawings.
  6. Observe the Wacom mouse, what is different about it compared to your other mouse?
  7. Open a new drawing and this time trace the image found on the tablet of the girl jump roping .
  8. Give several examples of situations where such a device would be good to have.
  9. Did you find the use of the pen to be ergonomic? Explain.
  10. Demonstrate your use of the pen for teacher check___________________.
  11. Return the equipment back to the box and return it to your instructor for your final teacher check._______
