1. Create a sketch of a motherboard and label the following components:

CPU, RAM, I/O Bus(PCI Bus), North Bridge, South Bridge, FSB, L1 & L2 cache, Memory Bus

2. Use arrows to show the flow of information on the motherboard.

3. Why does a computer need so many memory systems?

4. Describe the ways in which a motherboard is similar to a network.

Exploring Your Computer

1. Go to Start > My Computer and right click. Select Properties. What operating system does this system use?

2. How much memory does this system have?

3. What type of processor is running this computer? At what speed?

4. Make sure you can repeat these steps (1-3) on your computer.
