Read pages 285-295 and answer the following questions.

1. Define privacy.

2. Read pages 285-292. Which of the examples on pages 286-287 is the most disturbing to you? Why?

3. Use one of the examples on pages 288-289 to illustrate how your privacy is being undermined.

4. What is record matching? Give an example of how record matching can be beneficial.

5. Copy down the three problems with databases and personal data. Which of these is of the most concern to you? Why?

6. Read the Working Wisdom - Your Private Rights article on page 288-289. List the three tips you feel should be at the top of this list. Justify your top choice.

7. Read pages 292-293. Does it bother you that Sequoia now has over 15 surveillance cameras on the campus? Is this a violation of your privacy?

8. Is the same type of surveillance acceptable in the work place?

9. Why might an employer make use of such surveillance? Would you work for a company that used surveillance with its employees?

10. What are some of the protections that US law provides for your privacy? (291-292) How do these compare with Euorpean privacy laws?
