Database Basics - Creating Queries

Complete the On-line Create Queries for a new Access 2007 DB tutorial.

Answer the following questions as you read through the lessons. Save the database in your database folder by adding your name to the front of the file name.
Do NOT cut and paste the answers, put them in your own words.

  1. What is a query?
  2. What are the steps in creating a query?
  3. What is a recordset?
  4. How is a recordset different from a table since they both look the same?
  5. What are the benefits of using parameters in a query?
  6. What do functions allow a query to do? This type of data is known as derived data since it does not actually exist in the table the is being referrenced.

Practice - Go to Lynda.com and watch the Access 2007 Essential Training  with David Rivers - watch the chapter 6 Working with Queries. Go to school loop and find the Creating Queries assignment, your starting db file is attached to this assignment. Download the file and save it in your H: drive. As you watch the video follow the steps and be sure to save each query. Once you have completed the chapter demonstrate your queries for your instructor for teacher check. You will use the same file for the entire chapter. Again be sure you are saving your queries.

Now go back to the Creating Relationships DB that you used for the previous assignment. Create three queries of your own design and show the results to your instructor.
