How to Create a Screencast

A screencast is a video of what takes place on your computer screen. It is useful for creating tutorials where the viewer can see what you are doing as you explain the steps. The visual aspect makes the steps much easier to follow. There are a lot of screen capture applications out there and they can get expensive but free is always good. In this exercise you will use the Screencast O Matic web site to record your screencast or if you prefer you can use the Chrome extension - Screencastify. If you choose to use Screencastify you will need to install this extension. Here is your assignment.

  1. Create a demonstration or tutorial using something you think others would find interesting.
  2. Whatever it is keep it short, no longer than three minutes but at least one minute.
  3. When you have finished view the video to check and make sure the audio is clear and the video is showing what you expected.
  4. Save the file and then upload it to school loop.

Later when you have completed your ITGS project you will need to create a screencast of the completed project demonstrating that all components work properly. The screencast will be submitted with your project and report.

Here is a sample screencast.
